Senior Grading / Environmental Estimator
 
Position Title: Senior Grading / Environmental Estimator
Location:   Everett Branch
Reports To:   Chief Estimator
 
Position Summary
 
Work in a team environment to provide and coordinate full estimating services, consistent with Wilder's core values and best practices to produce complete, accurate estimates of all types of Civil and Environmental projects for both private and public clients.
 
Primary Responsibilities
 
 
  • Coordinate total estimating and bidding effort relevant to a particular bid as assigned, including preparation of a complete and accurate cost estimate, identifying and soliciting potential subcontractors and material suppliers, and preparing a pre-bid construction schedule.

  • Review proposal specifications and drawings, attend pre-bid meetings, perform material take-offs and observe site conditions and geotechnical reports to determine the required elements of the estimate.

  • Assist Chief Estimator with bid / no-bid decisions. Seek opportunities in the marketplace which provide Wilder with possible bidding advantages. Analyze other project conditions to develop bid advantages for Wilder at bid day.

  • Understand the use of, and appropriately apply, all HCSS features used by Wilder in the estimating and bidding process. Work with the proposal administrator to submit a responsive bid package.

  • Understand the risk issues of each bid and assist the Chief Estimator and other management personnel in evaluating uncertain conditions we may be responsible for pricing. Observe current market conditions to assist in bid strategy analysis.

  • Review and incorporate historical data of labor and equipment costs from past Wilder projects. Assist in the maintenance of data base records of past man-hour productions, labor and equipment unit rates and archive declined bids.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with clients, engineering firms, subcontractors, and suppliers to form strategic alliances providing the lowest cost and greatest opportunity for success at bid day.

  • Assist operations with the transition from low bid to budget. Monitor progress and costs of major items as the work occurs. Advise project personnel concerning issues with the estimate as requested, such as providing technical assistance in preparing change orders, subcontract negotiations, and analysis of alternative work methods.
 
Skills, Qualifications and Experience
 
  • Four (4) year engineering or construction related degree required. Civil or CM degree preferred.

  • Minimum 7 years in civil/environmental construction field experience.

  • Knowledge of estimating techniques including proficiency in estimating software preferred.

  • Ability to read, understand, and evaluate drawings, specifications and other technical project documents

  • Ability to work well with individuals at all levels and within all departments/branches of the Company.

  • Great organizational skills, ability to multi-task, attention to detail, ability to adapt quickly and decisively to changes and ability to meet strict deadlines required.
